Why this project
Each episode, a host talks with someone riding public transit — on the bus, at a stop, or at a transit center — about whatever they’ve got: an interesting idea, a contrarian take, a story worth telling. The series doesn’t preach transit. It works by being entertaining and by putting faces to the people who actually ride — the workers who make Las Vegas a world-class city, treated as people worth listening to rather than “the poor.”
Short, host-anchored conversations with strangers are one of the most bingeable formats on social video, and Bus Buddies keeps them real: everyday riders, not booked guests. The measure of success is simple — other people riding the bus see an episode on their feed and want to watch.
Format
- Episodes run one to three minutes — cut for brevity, edited to preserve the guest’s intent and character
- Host: Willie Chalmers III, carrying the series identity between episodes
- Mostly members of the public; invited community guests as the series establishes itself
- Episodes end on the memorable moment, not a runtime target
Production
- Volunteer crew of two to four with overlapping roles (host, camera, edit)
- Batch recording: one or two sessions a week, aiming for 5–10 conversations per session
- Every non-incidental on-screen appearance covered by a signed release; minors appear only with parental consent
- Launch with a three-episode backlog, then three posts a week on Instagram (cross-posted to Facebook) and TikTok, posted early in the day for the commute — moving toward daily as capacity grows
Initial production runs through the end of summer 2026, with an extension planned if the audience and volunteer capacity are there.
