Local Government Program

We cover the local bodies that meet all year, including the RTC board, the Clark County Commission, and the city councils of Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas.

Overview

The Local Government Program covers the public bodies that steer Las Vegas transit all year: the RTC board, Clark County Commission, and the city councils of Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas.

The program has a simple public rhythm: LVBT watches the agendas, shows up for transit-relevant items, comments when needed, and publishes plain summaries.

Motivation

The Nevada Legislature meets every two years, but local transportation decisions happen every month. Service changes, street projects, zoning cases, funding choices, and board votes can move with little public attention.

LVBT will keep a standing civic presence in those rooms so decisions leave a public trail residents can actually use.

Approach

LVBT will calendar meetings, pre-read agendas, flag transit-relevant items, prepare adaptable comment language, and publish short sourced recaps within a week of each meeting.

The program also keeps vote records and decision notes together so the public record builds over time instead of disappearing after each agenda.

Activities

LVBT will maintain a public rhythm of meeting coverage: agenda watches, brief previews, comments on transit-relevant items, and short recaps that explain what happened without requiring residents to watch hours of video.

Over time, the program will build a usable record of votes, appointments, budget choices, corridor decisions, and missed opportunities. That record will support annual reporting, public comments, and future campaigns aimed at specific boards and jurisdictions.
