Overview

State Legislator Outreach builds the Carson City relationships LVBT needs before the 2027 Nevada legislative session. The project identifies potential champions, briefs legislators, prepares testimony, and coordinates a clear transit funding ask.

It is the relationship track behind the public 2027 Session Campaign.

Motivation

Nevada’s Legislature meets every two years. The 2027 session begins in February 2027, the last one before RTC’s 2028 service cuts hit.

LVBT has to prepare before the calendar forces action. Walking into session without relationships, testimony, district-specific arguments, and named champions gives transit opponents and inertia too much room.

Approach

LVBT will hold early relationship-building meetings, prioritize district visits in transit-dependent areas, and connect transit funding to what each district already lives with: tourism, workforce access, climate, safety, and equity.

The work will coordinate with organized labor and existing transportation advocacy so the funding ask is clear before the session begins.

Activities

LVBT will maintain a map of legislators, districts, committee roles, transit relevance, and known positions before the session begins. That record lets the organization focus outreach where it can actually move a vote, champion, or public commitment.

People will see district briefings, a plain one-page funding ask, named coalition alignment, written testimony, oral testimony, and a clearer account of which legislators helped move the Valley’s transit needs forward.
