Why this project
Nevada’s legislature meets every two years. The 2027 session — beginning February 2027 — is the only window before RTC’s 2028 service cuts hit. Walking into that session without pre-existing relationships, prepared testimony, and identified champions is how you lose. We won’t lose by being unprepared.
Goals
- Identify and brief at least one champion in each chamber by end of 2026
- Develop and circulate a one-page transit funding ask to all members of the Senate Committee on Revenue and Economic Development and the Assembly Committee on Revenue
- Coordinate with allied organizations (Culinary, Sierra Club, Nevada Conservation League) on shared asks
- Prepare written and oral testimony for the relevant 2027 hearings
Approach
- Early relationship-building meetings — coffee, not asks
- District visits with legislators in transit-dependent areas (Assembly Districts 11, 12, 13, 28, 35, 41, 42)
- Briefings tailored to each member’s interests (tourism, workforce, climate, equity)
- Coordination with organized labor and existing transportation advocacy at the state level
