Urbanism Book Club

Overview

Urbanism Book Club is a low-pressure reading and discussion group for people who want to understand transit, housing, streets, and city politics with other Las Vegans.

The format can rotate between books, essays, reports, podcasts, and films, with discussion rooted in the Valley.

Motivation

Curious residents can talk about why Las Vegas feels hard to move through when they have a welcoming place to learn the language of transit, housing, street design, and local government together.

The group makes political education approachable: social enough to welcome newcomers, serious enough to build shared understanding, and local enough that the conversation returns to streets and buses people know.

Approach

LVBT will choose accessible readings tied to real Valley issues, host public discussions, and keep the format social rather than academic.

When a discussion produces something useful for the wider organization, LVBT can publish short takeaways or connect the conversation to another project.

Activities

The book club will publish reading lists, discussion dates, and short takeaways that connect the material back to Las Vegas. Those notes can help people who missed a meeting still learn from the conversation.

The public value is an on-ramp: residents can learn the language of transit, housing, streets, and local government before they testify, volunteer, organize, or help with another LVBT project.
