Why this project
The young people who’ll inherit this fight before they’re old enough to vote do not need another internship-shaped resume line. They need real work, paid honestly, on something that matters. LVBT can offer that.
The Vegas Transit Youth Corps is a paid fellowship — high school and college students placed on a defined LVBT project for a semester or a summer. Each fellow ships one defined deliverable: a research piece, a communications campaign, an organizing toolkit. Pay is stipend-based and grant-funded, not “exposure.” The portfolio they walk away with is real because the work is real.
Approach
- Recruit through the existing College Student Outreach and High School Outreach projects
- Pair each fellow with a project lead; weekly check-ins; explicit deliverable spec on day one
- Pay competitive stipend; stretch goal is at-or-above the city’s living wage prorated to fellowship hours
- Treat fellow output as first-class LVBT work — bylines, credit on the site, public release events when warranted
