Vegas Transit Youth Corps

Overview

Vegas Transit Youth Corps is a paid fellowship for high school and college students working on defined LVBT projects in research, communications, or organizing.

Each fellow completes one real published contribution: a research piece, communications campaign, organizing toolkit, report, or other credited piece of LVBT work.

Motivation

Young people will inherit the Valley’s transit fight before many of them are old enough to vote. They need real work, honest pay, and public credit, not another unpaid resume line.

LVBT can give students a place to learn by doing while strengthening the organization’s own capacity.

Approach

LVBT will recruit through College Student Outreach and High School Outreach, then pair each fellow with a project lead, weekly check-ins, and a clear work plan from day one.

The fellowship will be stipend-based and grant-funded. LVBT will treat fellow work as first-class organizational work, with bylines, site credit, and public release moments when warranted.

Activities

Each fellow will finish the program with a published contribution: a research piece, communications campaign, organizing toolkit, report section, event package, or other defined contribution to LVBT’s active work. Fellows will receive public credit where appropriate and useful feedback throughout the project.

The annual record will include the cohort, the projects completed, the skills practiced, and the organizational capacity added. That record helps LVBT show funders and partners that youth engagement here means paid civic work, not symbolic participation.
