Vision: Viva Vegas

Why this project

Outside the Strip and downtown, too many Valley streets are interchangeable — the same strip malls, the same walls, the same six lanes. Could you tell Centennial Hills from Aliante with the street signs covered?

It doesn’t have to be that way, and Las Vegas of all cities knows it. This is a town founded on theming, spectacle, and being a little bit weird. Vision: Viva Vegas asks Las Vegans — especially young Las Vegans — to put that imagination to work on the places they actually live: neighborhoods where a small business can stand out, where you can walk across the street for a taco and catch a streetcar to a movie, where you’d know exactly which part of the Valley you’re standing in.

It’s a design contest with a simple brief: pick a real Las Vegas place and show us what it could become. Drawings, renderings, models, photo collages — the medium matters less than the vision. The strongest entries get rewarded, published, and shown to the people who make decisions about what gets built.

Approach

• Open submissions with published rules and categories, including a dedicated youth category
• Public design workshops to help first-time entrants turn an idea into an entry
• A judging panel drawn from local design, arts, and community voices
• A public showcase of the winners — and publication on this site with each entrant’s credit
• Winning visions carry forward into our other neighborhood work, from scrollytellers to public comment
